He gave a different name from that phone number. If he/she doesnt meet you face to face DO NOT take anything down!
And yes its a scam for two reasons. Told me he/she moved TO IOWA. Listings for same house we were about to rent (ann arbor, mi) were the higher than the one sent by same phone number as posted here.
Contacted the REAL realtor and said the house was already rented and the guy still kept wondering if we were going to rent. Also said only way to see the house is looking through the window. Not to mention the owner "has the keys" and realtor does not. In reality the realtor has the keys.
If you are selling your house/renting, go through verified realtors ONLY! Never ever go through private party to sell. Never take down a sign until you receive the minimum due. If you agree for example, to hold the house for 30 days and the minimum is $100, have a contract specifiying that if the rest of the money is not received by that date on the contract that the house is to be relisted and any finances paid will be forfeited.
Selling houses/apartment/ect ILLEGALLY! Does not own/manage any part of the property(s) or belong to any realtor agency. Makes excuses not to talk on phone. Claims to live in IOWA when phone number is a missouri phone number. Called to claim moved out of ann arbor so no way to look at the house except through the windows. Only person to "have the keys" and wont release the keys until security deposit is paid.
Called actual agency and name claimed on the email cragislist ad does not exist! Also looked up the phone number on other websites to find that others have been victimized/potentially victimized for the same scam.
Craigslist is not at fault. when responding to adds, do what i did and verify. NEVER send money or identifiable information to anyone until verified. If the phone number is out of the area from the listing, research just in case. Not all out of area phone number agents are scammers hence verifiying. This particular number DOES belong to a scammer and thief!
One more thing, if sent a rental application, dont fill it out IF it does NOT contain address, agency or other important info.
Did by any chance he give you the name of Iris Garner? I was actually at a house on 1904 Winsted in Austin. But he was calling me from this exact number. Told me we was Indiana where he moved. Said Rent is 800 with all bills paid. We talked on the phone and everything. Emailed back and forth even texted. Also asked me to take down the sign in the yard. Wrote up a lease contract. Haven't sent any money only bc i want to make sure this is no scam.

this is a scam and all the same bull as you guys describbed above occurred with us too the only thing different is now the rental is in warren mi. and he is in illionios. he said his name is jeremy and all utilitys are included for 700 for a 3 bedroom ya right i zillowed it and house not even on the market anymore gimmick.
I was trying to rent a place from a man that has in number. He said his name is Richardson Lavonda. He said he had to move from Merced quickly because of a job opportunity in Illinois. He said rent was $800 with everything included. He said we could look at the house but only through the windows as there was no one to give us keys. He asked to take down the realtor sign if it was still up. He claimed that he took the house off the realtors list because their price was too high. The application we filled out had very little information required. This is definitely a scam. He also gave a second number to call him at but he never answers when we call. He said he would write us a lease and then we would pay and we could move in. I'm glad I saw this before finalizing the agreement.
