These people have continued to call me on a regular basis. It's a complete scam. Don't listen to what they say as all they want is your money. Going to complain to the authorities. To the owner - beware. Lawyers are about to get involved.
real crooks first they claim to be national attorneys association. when I called back they were magically goldman & assoc. anyone who has been on the 800 notes pages before knows that they are some of the worst crooks and scammers. they claim my wife took out a payday loan for an amount that is above what the law allows in this state and on a date that I know she could not have taken out a loan, nor did she have any reason to take out a loan. she had payday loans in the past but they are all paid back. they are trying to take a old paid loan and recollect. they claim the sheriff will be here today or tomorrow I think the truth is never.
I received more than one call from this number. It is an automated voice using my name claiming that some fraudulent activity is associated with my name and SSN#; that I am in the process of being served with legal proceedings and that I should call back. I figured that this maybe fraud and after reading the previous comment, I'm blocking this number and warning my family and friends. I hate crooks! Beware!!!
I received the same message as Patty. How is it that we are getting the same exact message? Can you say scam? I can. I guess I'll wait to see if charges are really being process against me. I would think that if it were true it would have happen already and I wouldn't have received a courtesy call.
I just received a call from this number with the same exact message I have no idea what they are talking about but after reading other comments about this number I will be blocking them also. I agree with ms .Kaye I don't think you would get a courtesy call .
They are calling from Portfolio Recovery Associates. They buy debt that is past the statute of limitations and attempt to collect. Usually Capitol One but they also buy debts from other companies. They use the tactic discussed in above posts to scare you and to attempt to collect information on you, such as, address, phone number etc. etc. If possible they will attempt to get you to admit to owing a specific debt. If you agree to make a minimum payment, the statute of limitations can be reset. As long as the debt is past the statute of limitations and you do not make a minimum payment and you do not admit to anything, they can not sue. There is absolutely no legal recourse they can take. All they can do is keep calling you and try to threaten you into making a mistake.(and they will call for years and years) Be very careful of speaking to them as they record calls and will use information against you. Two suggestions I have: #1 if they are calling a cell phone ... get mr number or another call blocker and just block their calls. #2 On debts past the statute of limitations ,you can stop debt collector calls by sending a written cease and desist letter. Be careful not to accept any type of responsibility for the debt because in some states, that could restart the statute of limitations. Just google "letter to stop collectors from calling after statute of limitations" and you can find templates for the letter. Make absolutely sure that your debt is past the statute of limitations otherwise it may accelerate legal proceedings against you. THE TACTICS THEY USE ARE ILLEGAL AND IF YOU PLAY YOUR CARDS RIGHT YOU CAN SUE THEM. You can see that the company in question is actually advertising on this page. See the add that says " PRA resolution center?" That's them!
