This person is going by the name of Rev. Steven Donnani and is on Craigslist to rent out a house of his choosing for $700. It seems too good to be true because it is and he will get very aggressive when you confront him of potentially being a scammer.
Caller ID was Mitchell, SD. The message left on my machine was: "This message is intended for ____. I am contacting you from the Processing Division. I received an order for you. It looks like two charges pending. Now, unfortunately, because I am unable to reach you by phone, I will be actively pursuing you at your place of employment and your residence. You have the right to contact the client to resolve this matter voluntarily. Understand, when you are located, you forfeit that right. Your case number is _____. You can reach the office at 605-299-4686."
Lies. I've been receiving calls like this for years. First of all, the "case number" is the scammer's file number, not a court file number. I would know about any legal matters pending against me. There is no "client." These callers are not representing anyone but themselves. If one of these scammers "actively pursues" me (which has never happened and never will), he'll find himself surrounded by lawyers at my office or he'll find himself surrounded by lawyers and cops at my home. You can't threaten people in the legal profession or law enforcement with "charges pending." Bring it. It's who we are; it's what we do. If these callers are located, they'll be facing charges.
My advice about these phone calls: Don't answer numbers you don't recognize and don't call them back. If you are ever served with papers, you'll have the opportunity to present your case before a judge. Don't pay money to people who come to your door threatening to serve you with papers if you don't pay them at the door--call the police.
Called me saying they were serving me over a "complaint" and that they would pursue me at home and at work. Robot recorded voice. Gave me a file number (fif327293) that conveniently got staticky in the middle. Sounds like bs to me.
