Received two calls in one day from 607-735-0855 and 315-458-7682, caller ID's both showed them from "NEW YORK", and both a poor automated voice recording stating that this was my last chance to avoid arrest/persecution and demanded I call the "IRS" at 347-305-6110.
1) The IRS never contacts people via the phone and never threatens a person, especially using a generic voice recording and NOT stating your full name and giving a contact name.
2) Communications would be via a 1-800 (toll free) number, if there are IRS issues and that would be ONLY after a USPS mailed formal communication is sent and specific issues have already been initialized. Again a IRS agent name, your name and other relevant information will be included in documentation.
3)
A clue, if one chooses to play with them and check for legitimacy, when calling their "must call this number" 347-306-6110, always preceded dialing these with the "*67" to block your number. If your blocked number is NOT accepted, that is a clue that they are harvesting numbers. (Collecting numbers to use again as active victims or to sell to other scammers). If the call is rejected, there is a 99% these people are nothing but criminals.
Have received several calls from this # that have been quite annoying. Do not know why one person would think they could get someone to believe the story they present. They must be STOPPED from taking our valuable time.
This was a recording claiming to be the IRS and they've been trying to reach us about a lawsuit they're filing. Gave a 253 area code number to call back. Obvious scam.
We live in AL. On 1 Dec. 2014 we received a call from an American sounding female claiming to be with the IRS. It was from 607-735-0885 in N.Y. state. She said we are being sewed by the IRS. We were told to call 253-656-5016, which turns out to be in WA. state. Since we know that the IRS never communicates to individuals via threatening phone calls, red flags went up all over the place & we knew it was a scam. The internet has both numbers. The N.Y. number has received complaints since the 1990's, several of these messages had nothing to do with the IRS. We did not call either number. These folks need prosecuted, & quickly!
I just got a call from this number. No voice mail. I was recently on Craigslist in Medford, OR looking for apartments. I answered an ad that turned out to be too good to be true. The author of the email was obviously not American and even referenced West Africa. I provided my phone number, and now I am getting calls from this number. I should be more careful in the future.
