Claiming to be local police-looking to get money for local youth sporting programs.. But, when I looked the number up other people say this number is linked to other organizations...pathetic!
Many call centers make calls on behalf of multiple charities and other clients. Very few charities run their own call centers but some employ individuals who call from their homes. This latter tactic is most frequently used by charities looking for donations of clothing or household goods. I recognize the names of the local ones that call about once a month.
Have received several calls from this number, including one at 8:48 p.m. last night. When I answered, the guy sounded half drunk and said he was from the Mercer County Police Benevolent Order. I assume he was calling to raise money. I hung up the phone loudly. Unfortunately, there is no Mercer County Police Benevolent Order from what I can tell from the interwebz.
caller id Mercer FOP. Male voice with fake accent threatening to issue a federal arrest warrant if I did not call a 201 # back. Gave a hard to make out name. Brazen enough to ask me to contact local police!
