I called the number back, because I couldn't hear the v/m they left. It was answered as US Treasury. I let her rattle on her spiel and I tried to sound concerned so she would tell me more. They were coming after me for back Taxes. I told her I needed to think for just a moment, then I composed myself and rattled off, "You know that the rate of Scammers has increased over the past 2 months. The biggest Scam is the one for IRS and Back Taxes!" I told her that I would be reporting this number to the State Attorney General and that the IRS would NEVER, EVER call anyone (unless someone requested a call back) but would ALWAYS begin with a certified letter. She said she wasn't with the IRS and hung up on me! The audacity!
Yep, same call a few minutes ago. Scam with the threat about back taxes. Same phone number showing Danbury NJ.
Our call screening works a little better than the TSA's.
Left message on answering machine; something to do with treasury department and I would be taken to federal court if I didn't call back. I didn't, stupid jerk.
