It's a SCAM don't answer it or return the calls. Idiots that don't have a real job, and they want to sound like they have an important title. They are h.s. drop outs that couldn't get a real job.
had the same experience. I asked for the name of the company and address and were reluctant to provide that information. When I told them to send me the complaint in writing, they explained they could resolve it the debt today. Since I refused, they told me they would see me in criminal court. How would a debt put me in criminal court?
Ordinary debt cannot be placed in criminal court. By telling you that they have violated Federal Law (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act). They are also legally required to send you the relevant information about the alleged debt in writing via US Mail with a notice that you have 30 days to dispute the debt in writing. If you do dispute the debt and they wish to continue collection efforts they must provide you with a Debt Validation Notice which provides among other things, the original creditor, date the original debt was incurred, payment history (if any), current amount owed, how that amount was calculated and proof they have the legal right to collect the debt.
