It was actually a TEXT message from (610) 285-9271. It just said << Heyy :) >> -- I suspected it may be an old, old friend so texted back that I was guessing at who it was (my lost phonebook(s)-- or his getting a new #!-- explain his name & # not being programmed into my phone... fair enough, right?!) and I included a cryptic enough question that I knew my friend would understand immediately. I received no acknowledgement, just << :) A.dd me on y! msngr .. sn is madelinegirl17 >> ... and when I commented on the unusual screen name (for my MALE friend?!) I just got << sorry I have no battery life ;( >>
Several other people have reported (on this site) receiving texts or calls FROM other numbers, but the caller/texter greeted them with their correct name and then asked them to go onto Y! messenger to connect with that same screen name -- madelinegirl17.
Some were asked to connect using Skype.
Has anyone actually gone on Y! Messenger (or-- creepier, right?!-- Skype?) to figure out what the ultimate POINT of the scam is???
