Ever since I've been trying to sell some clothing on Craigslist I've gotten three different numbers with three different attempted scams, all similar. This time around they must have upped their game by using this local number. Basically, the person texts you and says something about currently being out of the state and will be paying by check (my ad specifically says cash only). Once the check has been deposited and cleared, some "mover's" (note bad grammar) will come to pick up from your location This mystery texter will also add an extra $50 for holding the items. In other versions of this same scam I have been asked to mail the items to a PO Box in Florida because they are to be a present for this texter's niece. At the end of the day none of it makes sense. Why would somebody send movers to pick up some ladies' suits? Why would you pay by check when the add specifically states "cash only"? Why would you offer $500 for all the clothes listed when the actual sum based on what I'm asking is only around $40?
They will want you to wire (Western Union or similar) an amount to the "mover" which is the scammer itself. The check will eventually bounce & you will be stuck & out of money, The wire transfer is the same as cash.
