This phone number called me recently and left a voicemail. Company is United Recovery Systems out of Houston - a debt collection agency. I think they are using this as a "dummy number" as it is in my local area. I think they try this so the less savvy [looks like sawy .. but is actually S A V V Y ; ) ] will answer. However, after job loss and utter financial ruination, I know well enough not to answer unknown calls - lest I get some real nasty collector start to threaten me .. or my family .. or threaten to - or do even after I speak to them -  call my neighbors. Leave a message and I will call you back when I know what you want, is my motto. However, the young woman who called me was very, very nice. [Had the same experience with Collect Corp, spoke to a very nice young man and then a nice older woman who took down my lawyers information.]

Anyway, if you have started to get calls from folks like these, you might just wish to consider bankruptcy. I have and it takes a world of worry off your shoulders. When these folks call you just give them your lawyers info and he/she takes it from there. It also starts you off anew, it makes your phone number "safe" again and these debts can never be called on again with the automatic stay issued by the courts. If you can't afford a lawyer on your own, contact legal aid and see if they can help you. It really does make things better and gives you a clean slate. [And you can tell anyone who gives you grief about bankruptcy that Daphne says, "Just wait 'til you lose your good paying job and see what happens to YOUR 855 credit score, bud!"]
