Got the call five minutes ago from a woman named Kelly (rather than Rachel). The gist of the recording is that there's a program to help reduce your credit card debt. It's not clear to me if these are credit counselors like the ones I see on TV. But since this was a cold call, it's probably a scam. I hung up before the end of the prerecorded message and then blocked the number on my cell phone.
Unless a debt reduction agency is publicly funded, or not for profit - avoid! There is one thing that will happen if you pay someone to reduce your debt. You'll get more of it. As well, any calls offering to improve your credit score are just plain fraud. If there is an error on your credit report you can fix it, for free. The forms are on the major credit reporting sites. Debt stays on your credit report for 7 - 10 years. It goes away when the debts are paid - after 7 - 10 years.
