I can't help but think the phone company is complicit in these scam calls. It's not their intent but it is their service that is being abused.
My Verizon service will not block calls for long without me paying for it. Seems to me they are benefiting from the scams.
Reporting to the FTC is fine but there is little to no enforcement funding to do anything about these calls.
Let's start complaining to our LD phone carrier and see what might change.
fhese people call and leave messages that papers will be served to you at your home or place of business concerning civil and criminal charges if you wish to resolve it before they are served call back immediately.
Received a call this morning from 612.354.4016. Was a recorded message which stated his same was Marshall Walsh. Requested a call back @ 208.908.6433 advising that he was to serve legal documents to me at my residence or place of business in connection with a Civil Suit filed against me.
Two quick things about this... first, no true collection agency or legal department of any kind will CALL you to schedule a time to serve you with legal papers and if they did they certainly wouldn't use a recording that says "to be connected press 1 now". This is a Guaranteed way to have the anticipated recipient be anywhere except that location!
Secondly, the number that they are calling from is out of Minneapolis, MN and the number to call back is based out of the state of Idaho... I don't know about you but that also rings a few bells for this being nothing but fraudulent!
I, too, received the same call at home and at work saying the exact same thing. Also, how can these people be sure they have a correct phone number not to mention leaving a person's name on an answering machine. I've been getting calls similar to this for 3 years now. If we don't recognize the number, we don't pay any attention to it. My attorney was intercepting these calls for months last year and we finally stopped going that route. Way too expensive but during that time, we had peace and quiet.
I am researching medical alert systems and then received a call exactly like those described above. I am extremely suspicious now, as one of the companies, whose website I visited, is Medical Guardian, which is at the top of this page!! I'm thinking this mysterious phone call, has come from them; I actually was seriously considering using this company, but now am thinking I will NOT use them. Sleazy....if you ask me.
