Received a call from 613-487-9693. She called, claiming to be associated with Visa / Master Card etc, and that I had been entered to win a $25k sweepstakes. She asked for my year of birth, which I provided. I assumed this was from activating a pre-paid gift card. She asked if i had a debit card, and if so what it was associated with, so I told her. She confirmed my address and told me about a watch and some magazine, and how I only needed to pay shipping and handling. I am a university student, and need my money for rent and groceries. She said ok, and asked if I was certain that I did not want the mail outs, and I told her I did not want them. She reminded me that the sweepstakes would call if I win. After reading this site, I know how i will react to a number from out of my area code... I hope they are fluent in Spanish... it will be fun to see how they react.
They asked for my name, and said that I was put in a draw to win 25 thousand dollars. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. They said that for participating, I would receive a diamond watch and a subscription to one of their 200 magazines. Total bs.
They've called me twice this week saying ive been entered into a draw and also asking to verify my age. I asked where they were calling from and she stated Quebec- when I then asked why I was called from the states last time, she replied saying they have an office in California and Florida as well- too bad the call came from North Carolina 1 (704) 307-4981. I then asked how come the number she's calling from is from Ontario , in which she said they are calling from an online phone.
Once she tried to confirm my address with me- that's when I got cornered her. I asked how she got my address and she stated from any of the major credit card operations, and that I must have good standing with them. Unfortunately for her, I just recently moved to another province and the banks, credit card companies etc., have not got my new address yet- but magically she did.
Once i called her out on it, she seemed distraught and said it's just the information she has received from her marketers and I said not interested and she said goodbye.
Received this phone call this morning! I live in Alberta! She wanted to know my year of birth, which I had told her, because she woke me up and took me a minute to process it was a telemarketer! Then continued the speal about entering a draw for $25,000 due to being in good standing with my credit card company. She then asked which card I possessed, theni asked her if this was associated with my credit card, then shouldn't she already know...anyway, she then tried to poke for more information...in which I said she is more than welcome to enter my name for a draw for the cash, but I would not be giving her any personal information!
