On May 16th at 8:52 a.m. I received a call with exactly the same message from Officer Ryan Smith saying he was from the Federal Tax Bureau. A couple of hours later I got another call but this time the message said he was from CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) and gave the same phone number (1-613-499-1606) and message. This morning, May 18th, at 8:18 a.m. the phone rang but there was nobody at the other end. I picked the phone up but did not say anything but just held the phone for a while before hanging up. The call display showed Ontario and when I clicked on this the phone number showed up as 613-499-1606. I think the robot message is activated when somebody actually speaks. I have received a number of messages in the past from Ontario so now I pick up the phone waiting for somebody to respond before I speak. If there is no response I leave the phone off the receiver for a long time...
Message left: This is Officer Ryan Smith from CRA (Canada Revenue Agency). This is to notify you that you are under federal investigation because of the fraud and unethical activities found in the audit report of your taxes. You can reach me on 6134991606. I repeat 6134991606. Don't try to disregard this message or else it will be taken as an offense from your side. Again, this is Officer Ryan Smith from Canada Revenue Agency.
Was definitely a robot voice. Also Agency pronounced 'A-gen-k'
I live in Southern BC and received a call from this number with the same recorded message in the last ten minutes. I called the number back and spoke with someone with poor English, I said "I think this is a fraudulent call". He continued with his prepared speech, when I said again "this isn't how CRA does business, you are a fraudulent caller" - he hung up on me.
