i'm getting billed for this number when actually my boyfriend is calling me from his cell phone. this month i have $107 in long distance fees associated with this number. Rogers (my cell phone provider) is saying there is nothing they can do about it, despite the fact that my boyfriend and i have matching bills to prove that it was him calling. I should also add that he doesn't use a calling card/skype/google to call me. my boyfriend's number is currently a my-5 number so there shouldn't be any charges associated with it, and there aren't if i call him.
I have been billed for a call to 613-555.1212, which stated Directory Assistance LEVENDO for 1 minute, the charge was $4.51.............I have not used directory assistance, and do not know what this LEVENDO stands for........this was on my November 6, 2010, bill.................I notified Bell, they didn't seem to know what this was about, or where 555 exchange was..................doesn't make sense, the charge will be credited to my next bill, but they said if this number shows up on furture bills that I will be charged. This is truly a scam............as I can see that other area codes have received the same charge on there bills.
Ok, Levendo is the dirrectory for US. The charge will show on your telephone bill, but is really paid to LEVENDO LLC........The company is located in Florida...Hope this is usefull for all of you who had this charge on your bill......
I was billed for the exact same thing - Levendo 613-555-1212 - at $4.51/call. When I called Bell they gave me the run around until I spoke with a supervisor that gave me the credit and informed me that I would see it on my next bill. I think it's a scam as well because no one called directory assistance from Canada to a US company. Seriously, we have 411 for that.
Like Taitu, I saw on my November 28 bill itemized for October 25: "Directory Assistance Levendo 613-555-1212 with duration of 1 minute, but with a charge of $ 4.51". Very seldom did I make use of Directory Assistance, and especially on that Ontario Municipal Election Day. On that day I cannot and do not recall making a Directory Assistance call. I usually use the INTERNET 411.
The Bell Canada staff said dialling 411 in Eastern Ontario is just like dialling 613-555 1212, but I did not dial 411 either, but he insisted that a call was made from our phone.
Note that exchange code 555 is normally used for fictitious telephone numbers in North American television shows, films, computer games, and other media. One of the few genuine number, but widely used: is AREA CODE-555-1212.
Following up Taitu's reply to Rolly, I followed Taitu's steps and asked for the supervisor for a refund. Note that if you call that 555-1212 number, you get billed while you are making your complaints. I agree with Taitu that it is a scam. When you call Bell Directory assistance you get billed for 80 cents, so who in his/her right mind would ask assistance from a (see Chispa reply to Rolly) Florida company Levendo at a charge of $4.51.
It comes to mind that there could be a virus in the system that tells the billing system to charge you for a fictitious call to 555-1212. When I spoke to the Bell Canada supervisor I asked her to investigate this 555-1212 charges , because there are also complaints in area codes 705; 519; 403 (@ $3.99); 506 (also at $ 3.99). It seems not only Bell but the other telco's as well should look into this (see http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-519-555-1212 for complaint from Olivia about 403-555-1212 "Fast Track Global Billing" on Alberta Telus and TD about 506-555-1212)
