When I answered a man with a East Indian accent asked for Mrs. Munroe. I said, "There is no Mrs. Munroe, here." He then said, "This is Jonathan Munroe." I said, "No, there's no, Jonathan, here." He said, "No. Can't you hear me, I said, that's my name." I said, "No. That's not what you said. You asked for Mrs. Munroe." Again, he asked if I could hear him...anyway...after all that roundabout-ness, he finally got to my name and said he was from ADT. (I guess they have a bunch of aliases or other registered names.)
I asked him how he got my number. He said because my number was shortlisted to receive a security system and that ADT was doing a promotion in Ontario (I thought this was curious since it didn't sound like the call center was in Ontario.)
I said, "No. I don't have an account with you guys. My number's on the Do not call list, how could they have my number."
He said, "This wasn't about my account this was about a promotion." He went on to say that the Do not Call list was for telemarketers and people selling stuff and that's not what they were doing. I said, basically, you are trying to sell me something I didn't ask for.
He said it was useless trying to explain things to me.
I got a call today from this number and he talked to me in my mother tongue and told me he is promoting an international calling service with great calling rates.
