We got the call yesterday, they left a message. I called the number and was told I couldn't discuss the matter (our phone number is under a different name). I was told that the issue was a federal investigation against the name listed on the phone number. First clue is that the number they gave didn't ring at any CRA office - CRA has specific answer protocols.
So I called back and pretended to be the person listed on our phone number. The name the guy gave was different from the voice message; person said there were a number of people in the office. Then they started to give an Alberta address even though the area code of their phone number is not in Alberta. The person said "I assure you, we have a valid address which you'll see is associated with this phone number"
I stated that I had contacted the RCMP as I know this is a scam - they said it's not. I asked them to stay on the line while the RCMP traced the call. Within 10 seconds, they hung up.
This number is used by a "call fraud operation" from caller ID 1-800-267-6999. They want you to return their call at this number 613-693-1423. It is answered by a guy (obviously in a call center from the background noise) with a very thick East Indian accent who can barely speak English. They call making threats. It must be an operation trying to extort money. I have reported then to the RCMP and local police.
If you are bored and "want to have some fun", call this fellow "from a blocked number" and lead him on. This fellow just comes unglued and gets all upset swearing away making threats. Hey, I say keep calling him...... if he keeps calling us! :-)
They will eventually quit calling and move on to someone else.
I received a call with this number to call back to. The man who answered (Eric something?) threatened me that he was from Revenue Canada, and I owed money. I became suspicious when he described how to send the money.
I also just received a message from this scam artist. He said it was from "Revenue Canada", that someone (? I couldn't out who) was under arrest, and that my address was under "federal investigation"
This is a bizarre message. The caller says his name is Eric Star from Criminal investigations of the CRA. He asked me to call him back at 613-693-1423. I did that today and he said that my tax returns for 2007-2013 have been investigated for fraud and that a federal warrant has been issued for my arrest. Apparently the amount owing is $950.00.
I checked my CRA account and it says I owe zero. Eric said as soon as I hang up he would activate the federal warrant unless I made payment arrangements now. I hung up.
Well they quit calling you and called me. Fortunately it was my alter ego Batman that called back and in my best Batman voice I told him who I was and that as a heroic crimefighter I would hunt him down and hand him over to the authorities. No sense go humour....
