I just got a call from these jerks. At first they called and left a pre recorded automatic message on my machine stating that they have registered a criminal case against me in regards to income tax fraud and that i have to call them asap. So I did.
They asked for my phone number, put me on hold and "got my file". He gave me his name and officer ID # and began reading all these charges that were now filed against me. At first i didn't believe it but then as he kept persisting that i listen and asking if i had a criminal lawyer. I never once thought that this was a scam. Stupid me!
I was in tears. They threatened me that a police officer was going to come arrest me and take me to jail tonight! They said that I owed CRA $3750.00 from incorrect info i provided on my income tax returns from 2010 to 2014. They knew my address from my phone number. When I asked them to verify any of my info they said that they cannot disclose any personal info. They said that the call was being recorded and that it could be used against me in court. They said that they have tried to call me but I didn't answer an unknown phone number. They said that they came to my house with regisitered mail but they couldn't leave it here because I wasn't home at the time. They said that my account was due today and they wanted to know if I could make a minimum payment today over the phone with a credit card to stop the cops from coming to my house to get me. They were extremely convincing. They asked how I did my taxes. After I was freaking out crying, the 'collections officer' said that because I have never committed a fraud before and that this was the first time of me hearing about it, he'd only give ME this one last time to make a payment if i talk to his supervisor. I swear it was the same guy with a new name and new ID number; after hearing me tell him that I didn't have any money or any credit cards and that I was on Govt Assistance; he said for me not to worry about it and that just this one time he'd pay it out of his own pocket!!!! I asked why he would do that, and he said, or you could go to jail, it's really up to you, Rhonda. They were very professional about the entire scam. I only felt better after looking up their phone number and reading about it here. Thank you.
