I have received a call today from this guys... played along for a while since I am a Senior Analyst, to gather as much information as I could.. I went threw the event veiwer for fun and told them I had DHCP errors.. when he asked me what they said told him that it could not contact blah blah blah by blah blah blah.. He then asked for the numbers which I gave him a made 10.0 network address. he then tried to say that my computer was infected and that they needed to remote into my computer to fix the issue. He needed to pass me along to their Senior Analyst since my computer is extremely infected that he needed to escalate.. To fix the problem was going to be 169 an hour.. So I said okay until I go the Senior Analyst then I explained what an actual DHCP error was cause he asked me.. at this time I was pissed off cause I knew some people would fall for this so.. I told him simply to take me off of their list as well I am reporting this to the police which I am definitely going to hopefully get this escalated up..
DO NOT DO ANYTHING FOR THESE GUYS, if you know something about computers play along and get information and report it
First off, they spoke to my wife and assured her this wasn't a sales call. When she realized it was, (Very aggressive) she started asking questions about where they got their info, guy (from india) kept repeating that it was in their database. I called them back and asked how they had information that I even owned a PC let alone was running windows, guy on the other end said that they just called numbers in the yellow pages. I told him that this was solicitation and seeing as we were on the GoC "Do Not Call" list to remove us from. He complied when I threatened legal action.
a fellow named david smith called & said that he was calling from windows live & said that some of the sites that i have been visiting are corrupting my pc. He wanted me to write down some commands to alievate this problem. I did not believe him. I asked him how he knew I had windows on my PC & he said he has a data base which shows everyone who has windows. I got his phone #. I did not call him back but he gave me his job id # 11982. I believe this is a hoax. I hung up & immediately he called back. I did not trust this fellow as to what he was telling me.
This IS a hoax - I stayed on the phone to see what they were really after, they asked me for REMOTE ACCESS to my computer. I reported it to Microsoft and the police.
This is MORE than a hoax. They get you to look at your event viewer on your PC and then say they will connect to it from their office to 'fix' the problem. They want to gain access to your machine and everything on it. VERY BAD. Tell everyone you know!!!!
Aso, received a call from these people, they called me back 6 times to try to get me to look up things on my computer, also told me they had a database of all pc users who are running window. We run mac so i knew these people were up to something. We are also on the do not call registry and the only information he would give me is the phone number and the name on line pc care. Indian accents with no tact or customer service skills what so ever. repeated that I could not understand them and had t threaten legal action for them to stop calling
