I just got this phone call. She also clammed that she was from Revenue Canada and asking questions about my TFSA account. She asked me for my reference number. I said I did not have one. Then she asked me for my last name to be able to find me in her system. Suspecting that it was a fraudulent call, I hangup quickly afterwards. She seemed to have an oriental accent.
Called me claiming to be from Canada revenue Agency wanting to talk about my Tax Free Savings Account.
I have not claimed anything regarding a tax free savings account on my taxes as of yet so I knew right away this was not a legitimte phone call. This person would not confirm my address or the bank which I hold my TFSA at but said she had such information and it was up to me to confirm my identity to show I was not "bad person or something" - her words. Strong french-Canadien accent.
Said she would send me a letter, I said please confirm my address, she said she wanted me to confirm my address. I said goodbye and she again threatened me with a letter.
I still don't understand what the point of her phone call was other than to try to get me to give her my TFSA bank account number or something.
I got a message today afternoon claiming Revenue Canada is missing information about my TFSA account and ask me to call back. Said she is from Ottawa, so I need cound 3 hours earlier....something like that She has a strange accent...I couldn't understand half the message.
I believe it's fraud too 'cause I couldn't find that phone number anywhere under Revenue Canada website.
I will call Revenue Canada tomorrow to confirm this tomorrow
She actually left the wrong phone number: 1-855
until I checked the call display
