I got this one two days ago. Normally I don't pick up my phone if it's a number I don't recognize but did since it was a 614 area code. Woman/girl was apologetic about her headset not working or something to that effect, giggled a bit, then started on about how I'd recently stayed at one of their resorts and ... to which I replied "No, I haven't" and hung up. The problem is last night I saw a brief local story on the news about the "Can you hear me?" scam. And I don't recall if she asked something like that to which I might have replied with a 'yes'. Just makes me uneasy and confirms my typical suspicious attitude towards calls on my cell phone since I rarely give that number out. Next time I'll definitely let it go to voice mail.
I just got the exact same type of call from 614-347-3683 - caller said his name was Josh. Unfortunately, I automatically said yes when he asked "can you hear me OK?" I normally don't answer calls from unfamiliar numbers but I let my guard down this time.
Another scam-telemarketer who refuses to tell who they are until after you "commit" to what they want (your information). Multiple calls with multiple numbers.
This is a HUGE Scam going around Columbus right now. It has been on all the news stations.
This scammer calls you and will usually ask "can you hear me?" or "can you hear me ok." Then when you say "yes" they have your voice and use it to open credit cards, bank accounts and other things in your name.
DO NOT SAY THE WORD "YES" or "OK". Say "no" if you happen to answer.
You can also report this number to the local police.
