The same thing happened to me. I started off with a wonderfully kind person who asked if she could put me on hold to download some info and a total jerk picked up and screamed and yelled at me. I hung up and called back asking for the first person I had spoken to. She apologized for the [***]. I said I'd have to do some investigating to see if this debt was valid. They have been calling back but I'm really reluctant to answer because I don't know if I'm going to get Jekyll or Hyde.
Going through a very tough time, and was explaining that to this debt collection company. They said they might have a hardship assistance program and could i hold. I did, and when they came back on the line, they were berating me and calling me a deadbeat and that i just WON'T pay my bills, etc. The most unprofessional, rude [***] i've ever encountered. And i bartend.
Unfortunately for them, their behavior has made that debt my LOWEST possible priority. I'll give them a dollar a month for years.
