A Dozen Ways to Protect Yourself
The next time you get a "personal" letter or telephone call telling you "it’s your lucky day," the Federal Trade Commission encourages you to remember that:
1. Legitimate sweepstakes don’t require you to pay or buy something to enter or improve your chances of winning, or to pay "taxes" or "shipping and handling charges" to get your prize.
If you have to pay to receive your "prize," it’s not a prize at all.
I received 4 calls this morning from a man representing Publishers Clearing House informing me that I just won a BIG prize and had to respond immediately with a check for $75.00
The call came thru with a # 000-000-0000 unknown caller
the next 4 calls came thru with Private caller
when I checked with 800 notes there are no reports of this telephone #
They had all my info including name address town & phone number
I received a call this morning from a man representing Publishers Clearing House & said I had just won a BIG prize & had to send $75 immediately .That came thru as an Unknown Caller at 000-000-0000.
I hung up the phone only to be called four (4) more times from a private number....Each time a message was left with the number 617-252-8516..I checked with 800 notes and that number wasn't listed....
They have all my information ...name ..address...town & phone number
