Don't know if it's from this number since we don't have caller ID. Our number is 617 area code.
However, received two calls in one day, March 4 or 5, 2010 -- first from a woman who sounded African-American, later from a man -- both identifying themselves only as "The Chimney Service."
The second call came after I'd told the woman previously to take our number off her list.
We are on no-call list.
We've had similar calls at sporadic intervals over the last month or so.
Caller ran through spiel for chimney cleaning service. First time he asks a question, a 3rd person speaks up! 3rd person answers questions as if he were *me*, while I sit in stunned silence. He says yes, let's make an appointment, confirms my name, address, but answers some other questions wrong. Then 3rd person tells caller "I gotta go, I gotta take a crap." Caller asks, "can I call you back?" 3rd person answers "no". At this point I hang up.
A few seconds later, phone rings again, this time with no caller id. I let it go to voice mail. The message: "Hey listen Chris I don't like the f***en way that you speak to me on the phone and make me write down appointments, I'm gonna f***en come to your house bro alright, Boston Massachusetts here I come brother."
Yes I should have spoken up during the call, but 20-20 hindsight and all that. I'm a bit worried, but it sounds like the call is *not* coming from South Boston.
He had my correct name and address, though this office phone *listing* is different. Where did he get it?
Offered chimney cleaning services. Seemed legitimate, but asked how long we owned the house. As we recieve many scam callers I'm a little suspicious it may be an attempt at identity theft. I'll hvae more information once I confirm either way.
6 calls from this number over the last 3 days. No messages left. I finally answered tonight's call @ 8:30 since the Celtics were at halftime. Same thing as previously reported - chimney sweep service. I asked how they got my number to which she responded that a list of customer was bought from another chimney sweep. I told her to take us off the list. I asked the name of her company - I think she said Hamilton Tech before she hung up on me.
