The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
This IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She said her name was Monica Fletcher and I had a complaint filed against me. I work for a courthouse:-) I'm telling the Sheriff's Department today.
received a fage message from mediation dept that i need to call back immediatley or my account will be returned as fraudulent. I did not call back, because last time i did this it was a scam call. they wanted my ssn, bank number and a strange amount of money for a "loan" that i did not have!
I received a call from this number as well, the messages stated it was from Monica Fletcher with L&D. Told me to call right away regarding an urgent message. I used another phone to call the number back and the woman that answered the phone stated her name was Amber - Livingston & Brooks mediation. Amber was not very willing to give me additional information until I gave her the phone number that they had called, stating that she did not know who I was. I told her my name but that was not enough for her, she still wanted the phone number which I did not provide. I told her I wanted to confirm the site and looked it up on the internet while she was still on the phone. I told her that I was seeing alot of complaints about these calls and thought it was a scam. She did stay on the phone with me while I looked up the site, but when I asked her where the company was, she said Kansas, which does not align with the website which states Illinois. I told her I did not feel comfortable providing the phone number she called on.
This number is also associated with (620) 236-3035. Yes, Monica Fletcher, I mean Amber, or is it really Monica??!!
At any rate very much seems like a scam. Level 3 Communications is the carrier and has several complaints from several states re: fraudulent claims:
