I am on the "do not call" registry...yet i keep getting unwanted telemarketer, political, and other calls...just got this one and no one would answer when i picked up the phone...only dead air.
Told me in very heavily accented English that I have been selected to receive a $100 Walmart gift card. Ask for my name, address, year of birth (I lied to them on all three counts to see where it went). The told me I would pay the $6.37 shipping and handling to ship it to me. I told her that I thought the call was a scam. She told me I was protected by the Better Business Bureau. I ask her if that was the US BBB or the Indian BBB. She hung up on me.
The Do Not Call Registry prohibits sales calls. It does not prohibit political calls, survey or poll calls or calls are just dead air.
Judging from the other posts on this page (which you apparently neglected to read) this call is "none of the above". Rather, it is a pure scam. Since the caller is a criminal anyway, he's probably going to ignore the Do Not Call laws, too, don't you think?
