That number is HRRG or something like that. It was a debt collector for some medical bill I supposedly didn't pay for like $54.00.
Anyways, I tried to explain to the woman that I am a part time student and I am having difficulty finding a job. ( I've been on my own since I was 16 and an accident I had on my way to work one day started this ridiculous debt train )
I also tried to tell her that I am enlisting into the Navy because of the small debt I have already accumulated in the past and I would like to honor my country and further my career opportunities.
I told her if they could give me some sort of extension, that I am also trying to work with other collectors as well, that once I get enlisted, I could definitely pay off this small balance.
The lady was EXTREMELY rude and short with me. She took an ignorant stance and told me I was stupid for thinking any other collectors would try and work with me because that is the reason it was in collections in the first place because it wasn't paid. I told her she was ignorant for trying to speak for ALL COLLECTORS when some of them had already agreed to this for me and it has already been reflected on my credit report. But she knows everything about debt collectors apparently.
Tell them to stop harrassing you. According to the fair debt collections act laws. All collection companies are bound by this and have to stop calling you
Actually, that is only partically true Cory. Just because you ask them to stop calling you because its harrassment doesnt mean the law is in your favor. In order for a debt collector to legally stop contacting you, you have to signed a cease & desist letter and request they stop contacting you and you need to be specific, list any numbers they may have or any numbers that you use (they do skip trace to get around this and to find you) and you can also request they only communicate with you via mail. But this is the only way to get them to stop calling you according to the FDCPA (of course other than paying them). I know this because I have been a debt collector for 6 going on 7 years.
