But seriously, folks. Who in their right mind would contribute their hard-earned $ to some ersatz "charity" that nobody ever even heard of, that "operates" out of some "dead" phone number ? Certainly not me, and I hope everyone who reads these posts feels the same way.
The now classic "call, hang up after a few rings, and leave no message" scam. The goal is to get you to call them back, which then bypasses any laws and limitations regarding telemarketing, because *you* called *them*. I'd love to know who it is who calls these back? Somebody must fall for it, because the as*ho** criminals keep doing it.
Received a call from my cell...didn't answer. Called the number from my work desk and went through the well orchestrated voice automated directory to a real person that said she was representing the Cal Police Activity League. When I asked for their Federal Tax ID so that I could verify their non-profit status, was disconnected. Go figure.
