The idea is for you to call up this other number and they then convince you that for a few hundred dollars or whatever they can talk you into you can make these papers "go away". Then after you have paid they sell your name to all their criminal buddies as an easy mark.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

I received a voicemail on Friday February, 19th 2016 from phone number 626 427 6340. Oh the voice mail the man says his name is Steve Whiley and he just received a fax and will be coming to give me a legal notice on Tuesday Februar, 23rd between 3pm and 5pm. He also states he will come to my home or place of employment and to have a valid ID ready. He then leaves this number for me to call 855 764 8978. Today, February 22nd I also received a call from him again reminding me that he's coming tomorrow.
To me this seems like a scam/ scare tactic. I don't understand why a process server would call me ahead he of time to tell me when they are coming. Also why did the number he called me from not match the one he left on the voice mail for me to call? And when I search for both numbers online nothing comes up.

So today I made sure I stayed home from work to see if this person would show between 3pm and 5pm as they said they would. At 2pm the same person "Steve Whiley" called again to remind me he's coming between 3pm-5pm. I waited patiently and nervously near the door with the tv on mute so I wouldn't miss any knocks or footsteps approaching. As I'm typing this it is currently 5:01pm. No one has come to my door yet. I'm also able to check my work email from home and I don't see any emails about someone looking for me. I also didn't get any calls from work that someone was trying to reach me. I work at a prison so I'm not sure even sure a processor would even be let on grounds to serve an employee. I'm assuming they'd be turned away and asked to handle it elsewhere. This is so frustrating it's starting to feel like harassment. I'm ready to change my phone number but I really don't want to, I've had it forever. Thankfully there is a block number feature on my phone. However, it only stops the call from ringing through. I still get the voice mail labeled under blocked calls.
