Anyone hear about a Craigslist scam praying on people trying to give away items for free? I posted items recently for free. Within the first hour I get about 6-12 responses. Half of which don't even name the item I’m offering. They just say something like this:

Hello I would like to come pick up
Rosie A <[email protected]>

I made the mistake of calling this one (below) because she named the item and she left a phone number:
" Hi

I love the cooler and can pick it up today if you have the time.

She said she wanted to arrange to come by to pick it up so I removed the posting - she ask me my address and got my name. But she never showed up. I called her back and she gave what seemed like normal excuses in the beginning for not showing (First time it was "a headache can I come later"... we rearranged for me to place it outside for her. Second time she didn’t show it was "I had to get my old family friend a ride somewhere",)... then the last time she didn't show is was very odd: "I broke my foot I can't drive". This not showing draged on for a week and seemed fishy and I suspect this is a scam.

This also happened with another posting of mine - different name and different number Tammy P.  818.288.2677 aka Donovan Dale

What disturbs me is that they both only seem to be after just my address and name (not my phone number - nor did they try to get me to go outside of the Craigs list email system. What are they trying to do by getting names and addresses from people offering items for free? What can they do with that? I'm glad I was careful not to give them an exact address - it was an empty rental house on the street where I placed the items on the curb and I didn't give my actual name.
