Comes over as out of area
Appears to be some type of travel scam, recorded voice, if you answer, gives name (Tammy or something) says she is calling on a recorded line and is a "travel consultant". Asks "are you there?"
Calls have been coming in constantly, pretty much every day, for the last weeks
BEWARE of callers who ask "Are You There?" If you say YES, you have just given them permission to charge you whatever they want, switch your service, etc. They have you recorded saying "YES" and that's all they need, even if out of context. Recommend you do not answer at all. But if you do, and they ask something to which the answer would logically say "Yes" -- DON'T. Either say "No" or don't say anything. Hang up and block them. I use AT&T which provides call blocking at the provider level and can block up to 100 numbers. I block every number these guys call me from.
Not one person has lost a single penny to this imaginary "yes" scam, unlike thousands of people who have actually lost millions to the scams no one (even though they are highly publicized) knows about. Scams such as the IRS scam (most publicized) where people have lost 55 million last year, computer tech support scams, kid scams (just read a story where someone lost 18 grand for imaginary bail), grant scams, advance fee loan scams, publishers clearing house scams, and debt collector scams.
Same experience as MISSIE, above, multiple calls, every day, for over a month.
Spoofers, using 630-593-90xx (area code and exchange), have been making multiple calls per day (although if you block a call they move on to a new number in the series). Thus far I have blocked over 40 numbers with this modus operandi, and the calls keep coming from new 90xx numbers. It appears they are trying to overwhelm & poison the blacklists with dozens of spoofed numbers.
Complain all you want, but none of the state or federal agencies responsible for enforcement are adequately staffed to handle the complaints. And they are terribly apathetic when they respond with form letters.
Get over it, get used to it, ignore the calls, and let voicemail do its job.
