631-343-4949 left a threatening automated voice mail at 9:47am PST today that said "initial appearance before magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. Now this is the final attempt to reach you. To know your case number and to speak to a Federal agent, call back on 631-343-4949. I repeat 631-343-4949. Thanks." This number appears to be from either Commack or Hicksville NY but may be spoofed. No government agency uses a number like this, nor would a government agency call about a criminal offense. Instead they would either send certified letters/summons, or enter a warrant and make an arrest. Do not be fooled by these calls! Do not call them back, and if you answer one of these calls and a someone begins to asks questions, do not answer any questions, or provide any information, or send any money! This is a SCAM!
They are using that "Police Department" element in their IRS scams more and more often. Pay attention to Slim.

Had the same call. I tried to call them back just to bother them like they are bothering us. I used a blocked caller ID and the message said that "the party you are calling declined to accept this call". Darn! I hate these kinds of people so I love calling and playing their game with them until they realize that I am totally on to them and just wasting as much of their time as possible.
They still haven't given up! This automated message from 631-343-4949 was left on our voicemail at 12:27pm PST on 5/19/16: "Claim courthouse within a couple of hours and the local County Sheriff are going to arrest you for five criminal allegations. So before this matter goes to the courthouse and you get arrested, kindly get back to us at 631-343-4949. I repeat 631-343-4949. Now if you don't return the call then the only thing that I can do is wish you good luck."
