Received a call from this number at plumbing business. I did not answer since it was out of area, they left a voice message stating they are from Home Advisor looking to pair up with a company in the area. He left a call back number with a local area code which I found a little odd. While Home Advisor may be good for some companies we have found that it is usually way more of a hassle than it is worth and it is better to just deal with customers directly instead of working through a referral/booking service. I consider this as a sales call.

Sales calls to a business line are not illegal nor covered under the DNC. You are right though, the referral agencies sell that info to as many contractors as they can. You pretty much have no hope of even getting into the house to give an estimate let alone getting the job. Take from someone who has been your business for 45 years.
