This number called me this morning. I called back, and they did not identify themselves. They answered the phone "Is this (my name)"? I asked who was calling, and they again asked me to confirm myself. Without introducing their name, their business, or the nature of the call, they rattled off a DOB and last 4 of SSN.
Because I would not confirm my ID, they took it upon themselves to rationalize that it MUST be me due to my defensive nature. Although no personal information was swapped, they advised I have a civil matter pending against me. For what, I have no idea.
With all of the scams for IRS tax fraud and numerous other identity theft operations, any company that is purposely evasive as to who they are is a red flag, and should be treated as such. I will be reporting this to my state's attorney general and the Federal Trade Commission to ensure that the general public is safe from false and deceptive practices in the marketplace.
