My sister, who does not live with me, owes some money. For three years I have dealt with credit collectors calling off and on, sometimes 10 or more times a day from various agencies. I finally found out my rights and told them that my sister does NOT live here, has never lived here, and to stop calling me. Sadly, new agencies pop up and start calling. Lately, I have been getting calls from this number, but when I answer NOBODY SPEAKS...EVER. It's so abusive and rude. I mean, bad enough that I owe not a single penny to anyone in the world (literally, I have no debt) and have had to suffer years of abusive debt collectors, but now they won't even speak and give me the chance to ask them not to call anymore? This really annoys me.
I keep getting calls from this number. At least twice a week for the last 7 months. Never anything on the other end. Never any message left on voicemail. All I hear either on voicemail or when I answer is 3 electronic beeps and then hang up.
it is illegal for any collection agency to leave their reason for calling on a machine. look it up, its federal law, its against the privacy act... im sure you dont want some stranger or a family member knowing about your debt. but your right, they should say who they are and where they are calling from. also the 'do not call' list is only good for sales/telemarketing calls... not debt collection calls.
