wasnt a number i recognized so i was listening to the message to screen it.
i am assuming this is a collection agency with spoofed call.
one note is probably they breaking alot of laws here because they called i am assuming from a spoofed number into canada.
two they are impersonating a police officer saying they are a police officer calling and they threaten if they dont hear from the individual or the attourney they will be in serious trouble.
person calling doesnt give full name, doesnt give division address.
also the person impersonating a police officer is not very smart. assuming its from the united states because the person impersonating a police officer had a southern accent. wrong accent for calling into toronto.
as well i havent been to the united states in over 20 years.
the call also cuts off immediately, without completing the message.
police officers will not be calling on behalf of collection agencies giving veiled threats.
also googled the number and its not any number for any police divisions in toronto.
I got one call in the morning and one in the afternoon from this number. The message says: "if you receive this message I need you or ... attorney to return my call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive and very urgent. My name is officer John Arthur ... don't disregard this message and do return my call ...".
It sounded like a recorded message. I believe it is a new kind of scam trying to scare you off by using words like "time sensitive", "urgent", "officer", etc... so you call back and God knows what they plan on doing next. Scam calls used to be about winning money or some cruise trip but it appears people have become aware of them so now they are using scare tactics.
