I had the exact same call last night with the same prize sum. He asked for an email and I said I had none. I asked and he gave me ,a phone #, his extension and a Toronto address. He said he would call in the next few days as well.
I received a call from a Jeff Goodfield, from Canadian Sweepstakes Company from Toronto, Ontario, saying that I won a substantial prize. they claimed that the number is 647-760-3504 but I can not find that number under reverse phone finding. The caller said that they would call tomorrow when they could find a delivery team to bring me my check.
This guy, calling himself Jeff Goodfield, said he was from the Canadian Sweepstakes Company, affiliated with Publishers Clearing House. He said because I shopped at one of the stores that are part of a group giving away these prizes (Home Depot, Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, etc.) I'd been selected to receive $750,000 US. He send me two phony documents via email, one supposedly from Bank of America and the other supposedly from Publishers Clearing House. He called again and said that to receive my winnings I would have to pay insurance and express delivery fees of $2,950. When I questioned this, he said the fees were necessary because the sweepstakes is partially subsidized and has to follow the rules of the parent company, Cody Montana Inc., and is governed by Act 001-571 of the Federal Banking Mandate. What a bunch of baloney! The real sweepstakes companies never charge fees to deliver prizes, it says so on their websites. 'Jeff' called again today from a different number (905-632-5632) and rudely demanded if I'd decided if I was going to pay the fee to collect my prize. One guess as to what my answer was.
this is a scam from outside of canada and usa. we have multiple references of this from people who call back who reach out to my direct line and then they realize they never did speak to me at all. we have 4 notices with the RCMP and CRTC of this and they are aware. they indicated they cannot stop this and it is unfortunate, as it is coming from outside their jurisdiction. that's the scoop.
