You do realize that's a junk scam right? I sincerely hope you didn't give them any information - if you did, cancel all your cards NOW!
This is the typical "Lower your credit card interest rate" claiming to be authorized by your credit card company. They are phone phishers just out to get your financial information.
Funny thing is, I don't have a single credit card, so I don't see how they can possibly be authorized to call me...
This is a scam. They claim to be authorized by your credit card company, but never mention any names or what card company authorized them to talk to you. Do not give them any information. Promptly hang up and make a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint center at ic3.gov.
I know its a scam because I do not have a credit card - even in this day and age, but they still called me and when I asked who gave them permission to call, they said "your card company" and I asked, "which one" and they said, "the one you have the card with the longest,' so I said, "That's funny... I don't have a card and never did, so who are you trying to BS?" and the guy said, "I'm talking to the head of household, right?" I said yes, and they replied, "Well you must have a credit card, so don't you want the interest lowered?" I said, "No I don't have a credit card, and refuse to get one, so who authorized you to call me?" I asked for their name, and they hung up. I promptly reported this conversation to the IC3.
That's because scammers like these are supposed to register as required by law to get a copy of the list so they can take our numbers off their calling list. However, these people (like most other scammers) use the list instead as a way to get more numbers to call. It's BS, but there's not much we can do about it except continue to make complaints to the ic3.gov and the FCC.
You're right that the only way this type of thing will stop is if Americans stop allowing it to happen.
Unfortunately, I agree that its disheartening how many people don't get it... I'm also saddened by how many people actually fall victim to these scammers and actually give out their info. Until these naieve people wake up it'll keep happening to the rest of us. Unfortunately, though, I've found that no matter how much you try to educate others about reality and the way the "real world" works, most prefer to stay asleep and not deal with it - yet then they want everyone to jump when they have a problem they themselves caused by being ignorant.
