Has anyone been getting calls from this number. Caller ID says "Your Health Plan". Get a call at least a few times a week. Located in Minneapolis as far as I can tell.
Checked my phone after a couple of hours to see a call from this number. No message, just the number listed. This is so annoying that companies can call you and not leave messages. If you don't need to tell me something, quit calling me.
I have received a few calls from this number, they hang up immediately after I answer. When I call back they ID themselves as Blue Cross Blue Shield, and you can get an option to supposedly leave your name and number to be removed from their call list if you are not a BCBS member. If you are a member, you can press a prompt that takes you to a recording that says, basically, we don't know who called you and there's no way to get a live person.
After a few of these calls I stared to get really pissed so I called BCBS (I AM a member) to find out why the hell they keep calling me for no reason. The CS lady put me on hold for quite a while, then came back and said she can find no records at all that this is actually their number (the first 6 digits are commonly used by BCBS but the last four are not an extension of theirs), AND that there is no record in the system that they have tried to contact me (they keep records of every contact/interaction). She agreed that it seemed extremely suspicious. She put me back on hold and called the number herself, then told me it's her belief that this is NOT BCBS, as they are very vague in their identifications and manner of speaking (ie that they do not follow the script that is mandatory at BCBS). She also told me that whenever BCBS contacts a member, they will identify themselves by name.
The CS rep said she will be reporting it to her superiors and that they will be investigating it further.
Long story short, this is some kind of phishing scheme...do not give them your information to "opt out" and for that matter don't even answer the call so they know that your number is active.
It is definitely Blue Cross Blue Shield, it's not a spoof or pfish. The number corresponds to their address in Northfield, MN. It is a recording on behalf of them and the American Red Cross calling with a pre-recorded, looping message urging people to get colonoscopies. I am NOT a Blue Cross Blue Shield subscriber -- haven't been for 3 months, although they continue to send junk mailings (and the last two months that I was a subscriber, they apparently applied my payments to someone else's account, leaving me uncovered, and showing how disorganized they are - so I'm not surprised that some representative doesn't know diddly about these calls). I called the number back, and got a recording saying press 1 of you are a member of some group, 2 if you're a member of another, and 3 if you are a member of neither. When I pressed 3, I got a message saying "we're sorry we called your number" and the ability to leave a phone number to have it removed. I let them know in no uncertain terms that I am not a subscriber, and they have no reason to call and tie up my line with these.
