The Indian caller said he was from Microsoft. He evidently had control of my computer and could use my laptop camera to show me pictures of myself. The phone e number was 657-206-4137
I just got a call from 657-206-4137 stating he was with Microsoft. He stated my computer is in trouble. Sounded like he was in a car. Anyone know of anything?
ALL calls of this nature are a scam attempt to gain access to your computer to plant ransomware on it or worse. Microsoft does not call computer users nor do they contract third parties or share customer information. Without specialized monitoring software installed, no tech support company can know anything about what is happening with your computer, not even Microsoft. Those pop up error reports you send to Microsoft when a problem with WIndows is detected are sent anonymously. In many cases, Microsoft does not even have your contact info since it is not required to be provided when you activate Microsoft products. Never, ever let anyone who cold calls you have remote access to your computer.
I have been called by an area code 702 number several times, but the one they leave as a call back number is the one stated above. Each time they have called, they have said my computer is sending signals that my computer is infected. Today I told her I would call her back and she said, "Yes, please call back. Your computer is infected and it will be hacked." She said to fix the problem would be free. I have since blocked the 702 number.
Received a call from Christopher Jones, 657-206-4137,(he spoke w/foreign accent probably from India or Pakistan) saying my computer was sending signals to their windows/micrsoft monitoring site indicating that my computer was infected with a viruse--malware, trojan horse and others and that they needed to help me delete the infected files so that my computer would not infect other computers. Since I have had problems very recently I fell for the bait and almost let him have access to my computer. As soon as he asked for permission to access my computer, I terminated the call.
