Robo-called me twice yesterday while I was out. Caller ID name on one was "Anaheim, CA" and the other "16572201612".
Each time they left a message on my machine that started before the outgoing message ended. They repeated it at least twice since the recorded message had the end of their message followed by the full message again, and their full message did not run as long as my outgoing message as the perky female voice was reading at a mile a minute pace.
Message left was:
"This is an important announcement, please do not hang up. The US Department of Education has announced that consumers may now qualify to have their student loans forgiven. Please press 1 now to answer two simple questions to see if you qualify, or press 9 to be removed from future notices."
Received the exact same message from 858-716-6364 last week and from 213-503-8127 & 213-257-5233 a few weeks before that.
While most of the posts here are about "Free Cruise" calls, one other poster reported the same message as mine a couple days ago. The four numbers listed above have been the same; lots of "Free Cruise" or "Free Vacation" calls and then the "Student Loan Forgiveness" calls start. I am beginning to wonder if these fraud operations are just sweeping across the country with their calls and they change the scam tried based on what region is being called. Cruise scams for the parts of the country moving into a cold winter and Student Loan scams for the regions (like SoCal) where the weather is usually sunny and warm.
I LOVE 800notes.com! My new standard practice when I don't recognize a number is to not pick up, then to go online and see if it's a spammer. Fortunately my iPhone seems to have unlimited number blocking, so each time I learn it's spam, it gets a permanent block. Another clue is if they don't leave a message. Thanks to all the 800notesters out there who let me know who the creeps are - and this number belongs to a creep too!
