I didn't answer the call. Caller did not leave voicemail. I don't know any person from that area code, and I don't think I have any business contacts in that area code.
"You can get up to $50,000 per occurrence of you get a good lawyer." If you are going to make a statement of fact you need to provide the proof by citing a source. I know of no law that tells you that you can get that amount of money per call. Spreading false information is as bad as what these callers are doing.
They are criminals. All they want is your personal information. Criminals do not care about the law. Most are foreign. They all use fake numbers and computers to mask their location and identities. A computers does all the work until you press a button, then you are forwarded to a live scum bag who tries to doop you by getting your credit card info or address and personal information.
These calls continue because they work. If the criminal calls 1000 people (by masked VoIP mind you) and only one falls for it, it is successful. Your identity and credit card/bank account can yield thousands. I don't know that many people who make $1000 a day. Also, not that many people use 800 notes or are aware of these scams. Every single day people fall for these scams and hence why we all continue to get these calls. Don't take it personally, millions of Americans get these calls, including politicians and millionairs. But, criminals can get your number from a host of places, the phone book is digitized now and auto-dialers can work wonders. Keep in mind, a computer does all the work until you press a button.
Telemarketing scams are the new email spams. Warn others, beware, and if it is a telemarketing robo call, it is illegal. PERIOD!
I have had repeated calls from Llano, CA with a 661 area code, which is Bakersfield, from a robot. I only answered the first call because I live in California and have a 661 area code... But it is obviously a scam/telemarketer. The call I did answer was a pre-recorded message that was meant to sound like a liver person, "Hi this is (so-and-so) and I am calling about your recent inquiry for Social Security". I hung up and blocked the number right away. Since then I have had at least 10 different calls from the same area (Llano, CA) and area code 661 with a similar message... They keep changing the number after I block them. HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP, this is so irritating. I have already registered my cell phone on the National DO NOT CALL list, it does not work.
The numbers they are using include: 661-249-0164, 661-249-0162, 661-249-0161, 661-249-0165 and so on....
