Got a message today on answering machine from someone with very poor English skills. Claimed to be "Frank Shelley (maybe Staley...couldn't really tell)" who claimed to be from Dept of Legal Affairs. Instructed me to call, or have my lawyer call, about an important issue. Ended the message by wishing me a blessed day.
Got the same message....called and was threatened with arrest as well! Could hardly understand the person I was talking to due their thick Indian accent! I demanded to speak to someone higher up but was given the run around and was told that I needed to call back today by 11AM otherwise I would be arrested. When I told him I thought it was a scam he got very defensive and eventually hung up on me. I went to the FTC website and found this info.
*When you have a tax problem, the IRS will first contact you by mail, not by phone.
*The IRS won’t threaten arrest, deportation or loss of a driver’s license.
*The IRS won’t demand that you make payment right away.
*The IRS won’t ask you to wire money, pay with a prepaid money card, or ask you to share credit card information over the phone.

had my name and physical address, but that's not where we get mail so I said
that's not my address, goodbye!
called me right back and said "Why did you hang up on me"
I said, I didn't I said goodbye
he said, have fun being arrested.
going to report it to my local sheriff's office when they open.
Got similar call for my daughter. It wasn't difficult to figure out it was a scam. I will continue to coach her about these types of calls as we should all do.
