I've given to Smile Train also. BUT, I've never given them my phone number. Therefore, I'm not so sure about this "Donor Services" outfit. I'll report to the DNC anyway, even tho charities are exempt. Are fund raising outfits exempt too? I've read that they keep a large portion of the funds "donated".
I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. I called back and a message said they were from "Donor Services Group on behalf of Smile Train. Please hold the line and a Group member will be with you in a moment". Since Smile Train is a very worthy charity I donate to on a regular basis, I held on the line. When the lady answered, she said she wanted me to consider donating on a monthly basis. I blew her off because I give directly to Smile Train myself and I was leery because she said she was with this group "on behalf of Smile Train". Seems odd.
But, please don't let this reflect negatively on Smile Train because they are an excellent charity that provides free cleft palate surgery to babies and children in Third World countries. I think the 800 number was from scammers using the Smile Train name since I've given to them for many years and have NEVER had them call me on the phone...only by mail.
I started to receive calls from 661-476-3072 in early this year. I reported it and the call stopped. I live in the northeast and I am in California on vaction and i just got a call from 661-476-3072 "on behalf of Smile Train".
Are you a Smile Train donor? Being a Smile Train donor, I'm of a mixed mind on whether my call was an incredible coincidence by a scam artist or a legitimate call by a charity. Your response will clear it up for me. Thaks

I keep getting pestered with these calls where no one answered the first few times I picked up. I used to donate to Smile Train which is probably how I'm on their radar, but I stopped donating because they apparently aren't really forthcoming about their accounts. Google them and you'll find quite a bit about that.
