You can google "Area Code xxx" and find out that 667 is a legitimate Maryland area code. A new one, but a valid one nonetheless. That said, "cell phones" do not robocall, so this is a SPOOFED number. The claim of veterans affairs is a lie, and this is a fraudulent call designed to steal your money.
For all of these types of calls, tell them that you never do business by phone, but if they provide their address, you will show up at their location to discuss any contributions face to face. The calls usually end soon. If you are given an address, contact local authorities to enquire whether they are legitimate or if they might like to arrive with you to discuss "face to face" with them. Best of luck!
Thanks "Annoyed". I had no idea that 667 was a legit MD area code, but when I get a call from "Unavailable" or the number used as the name of the caller, I never answer anyway. I don't know anyone who answers these "no name" calls much less give them money for anything. My friends and acquaintances just sit and laugh at these fools.
This is the Military Order of the Purple Heart. I donate to them regularly. Not sure why they don't leave a message. I have told them many times to take me off the calling list. As I said, we are regular donators. I go on line to set up pick ups.
This number (I called it) belongs to the Military Order of the Purple Heart. This is a legitimate non profit (which I donate to often via pick up). Too bad they don't leave messages, as people would be more responsive to them. Been donating to them for years and years.
You say this is the "Military Order of the Purple Heart". I dont answer my phone from Unavailable, Out of area, private caller, etc with a phone number attached to it and if they cant leave a message stating who they are and the nature of thier call as well, then the call wasn't important to begin with. I wont even call back to find out who they are either as that just indicates that your phone number is active and the list gets past on to someone else.
With so many scams going on now-a-days, I won't donate over the phone for several reasons and they are:
1) you cannot verify the indenity of the person who just called you and
2) you cannot verify the name of the organization they claim to represent either.
If I want to donate to charity, a charity of my choice, I will do it person and not by phone.
