Another new police charity scam, similar to the old FOP scams. This one claims to be the the Maryland state police cooperative coalition, or some such nonsense. I usually use *67 when I try to call these numbers back, but that got a very lengthy message about store hours for every day of the week and just goes on and on. This must be a new tactic that a lot of these scammers are using if you try to hide your identity...imagine that, a scammer who doesn't want to take unknown calls!!! Against my better judgement, I did call back without using *67, and the person who answered started into the police thing before I cut him off, told him to mail me something and maybe I'll consider, then hung up on him. I have family members who are police officers, and they all claim that these are nothing but out-and-out scams. Never donate anything over the phone to someone who cold-calls you!! I listed this as a Prank Call since 800Notes doesn't have a call type of "Lying, Scamming Thieves", cuz that's all these lowlifes are!!
No one can make them stop calling. The only way to protect yourself is to buy a call blocking device for your landline phone, or a blocking app for your cell phone, which BTW, I haven't found an effective one for my android cell phone yet...everything I've tried only quiets the ringer and sends the call to voice mail. A real blocker disconnects the call as soon as it comes through. Most effective call blockers for your landline are priced around $40 to $100, but they do work!! You can find them on Amazon or just do a Google search.
Called me twice last night. I also have relatives who are police who say don't give any money to thesee organizations. So putting into my do not call folder.
