You most likely got a call from a left wing extremist political hack group run by George Soros. I am a member of a Tea Party group, and nationally, we don't condone such activity as you've experienced. Left wing fringe groups have attacked Tea Party groups with scams such as what you mentioned. George Soros and former DNC Chairman Dr. Howard Dean have encouraged liberal fringe groups to launch assaults such as fake phone fundraisers. This appears to be one such vile attack.
