My (87 y.o.) mother fielded this call that said they were firefighters raising funds , she donated $25 by credit card . After flipping out , I called the card and they said the charge was posted as: "Professional Firefighters" in Gainesville, Georgia. I explained, and was told they would monitor this charge to prevent any further activity . Yes ma, this is the time for giving, BUT. . . ! just hope it is as stated .
Happy, Safe Holidays everyone !
Follow-up on earlier post: Have been unable to reach caller to verify anything , generic greeting no help . DID , however , receive a thank you letter from "Professional Fire Fighters of Georgia" thanking for the donation, and stating they were non-profit and explaining what contributions supported . Appears to be legit .
You would be wise to follow up and check your mother's card account daily for a long time. It isn't out of the question that a scammer could post another charge, unauthorized, now that they have your mother's card info. Yes, this might be legit, but it seems unusual and there are way too many scammers operating this way.
