Nicki Young from American Express - merchant rewards program - very eager to enroll us. Told her too many scams over the phone and we don't give out information regarding sales.
"American Express" trying to sign us up for some cash back program. Asked him to send me information, which he only wanted to email. Like above - seems like a scam.
We got a call for this number a few weeks ago wanting to speak to our Managing Partner about an Amex account receivable matter... for one of our portfolio companies. He has nothing to do with AR, or daily management at all, at that company and our companies do not even share the same name, so why this person would be calling us was immediately suspicious. If this really was American Express calling about an AR matter, they would just need to call the person on the account, aka, the AR person! This has to be a scam! The strange thing was that, when told he would have to leave a message with me and I would get to the correct person, he gave me the last four digits of the account number he was calling about and, according to the AR person, that was correct. Strange! Beware!
According the Amex Merchant Services, the number is not one of theirs and the call is a scam. Amex does not call it's merchants, everything is done by email or snail mail.
SCAM - Fishing for American Express account numbers… BEWARE OF CROOKS
Here is a transcript of the message they left me:
"Yes, this message is for ******** to car my name is Ron Times and I'm with American Express Merchant Services could you please give us a call back at 6 7 8. I'm sorry 866-493-9581. I was calling in regards to the Existing Merchant account that you have you with and open to give us a call back please reference the last 4 digits of the merchant number that (ends?) with 2 3 4 1 Thank you and have a great day."
