Call very early in the morning, told me my Grandson had been in an accident and was held on a DUI in Atlanta. I was told he had a broken nose and needed to be bonded out with in 2 hours or would have to spend 30 days in jail. Person calling said he was a Public Defender named Jimmy Smith, and for $1175 he could get my grand son out in a couple of hours. I was told to send money gram and not to tel his parents, because he was embarrassed and wanted to wait until he got home to tell them himself. This call had to many RED FLAGS for me to do anything but report it. I am dismayed at the attitude of the police, I had return call numbers and the number they called from, but the police didn't seem to care.
Called my dad claiming that his 16 yr old grandson (my son) was in atlanta for a funeral of a friend that died from stomach cancer. He was at a restaurant and had wine. On the way back to the hotel a woman ran a red light and hit them. He broke his nose and had cuts in his face. He was arrested for drinking and now needed bail money in the amount of $1100. My son is 3 miles down the road in school. Bunch of idiots. They might want to get their story straight next time.

Go back to the police station and talk to a supervisor and request a written police report. At a minimum the police should notify the public and the media. If they won't do this, write a letter to the police commission.
